A new murder mystery grips the small lakefront town of Crabtree, Michigan. But this time, the case - which includes a murder, a decades-old jewelry heist, and a pair of knife-wielding robbers - is the least of Kat and Alec's problems. It's spring of 2020, and the COVID-19 pandemic has sent the world indoors. School is virtual, most of the town is closed down, nobody can find toilet paper, and, worst of all for tween detectives, there's nothing to do! That is, until a new classmate seeks Kat and Alec's help in finding a lost relative. Seems easy enough, right? It is ... until the missing relative turns out to be a nefarious gangster and thief. And the new classmate isn't who he says he is. And he's not telling the whole truth, maybe ever. At every twist and turn, Kat and Alec get closer to solving the mystery, but they find fewer people they can trust. Their lives might be on the line - both because of killers lurking in Crabtree and the pandemic sweeping the world.
Girl detective Kat Dylan and her little brother Alec are back, and this time, they're up against two very different kinds of killers!
